The Buffalo National River was established in 1972. This river flows for 135 miles and is surrounded by bluffs of sandstone, limestone and dolomite, some towering at over 400 feet.
Nestled within the Ozarks, only 11% of the watershed is under NPS management. It flows to the east and joins with the White River.
